1. Birth and Parentage : Kalam was born in a middle class Tamil family in Rameswaram , Tamil Nadu . His father , Jainulabdeen , was neither very educated ( এডুকেটেড ) nor very wealthy ( 3G ) . However , he had innate ( ইনেট ) wisdom and generosity ( জেনেরসিটি ) . His mother , Ashiamma , was an ideal partner to his father . She would happily take the trouble of feeding ( ফীডিং ) outsiders . She came of a distinguished ( ডিটিংগুইশড্‌ ) family . Kalam recounts that his parents were tall and handsome ( 1 ) but he was a rather short boy with ordinary appearance ( অ্যাপিয়ারেন্স ) .

2. Ancestral house & secure childhood : In his childhood , Kalam lived in the ancestral ( G ) house . It was a fairly ( ফেয়ারলি ) large pucca ( পাক্কা ) house built in the middle of the 19th century . His father was very simple in life - style ( b ) . However , he would provide for Kalam everything he needed . In fact , Kalam had a very secure ( সিকিওর ) childhood ( চাইল্ডহুড ) .

3. Food habits : Kalam would eat with his mother , sitting on the floor of the kitchen  . At lunch , his mother would serve rice , aromatic sambar ( অ্যারোমেটিক সম্বর ) , homemade pickle ( হোমমেড পিক্‌ল্ ) and fresh coconut chutney ( চাটনি ) .

4. Locality : The locality where Kalam lived was Muslim dominated . But a lot of Hindu families lived there in a friendly manner with their Muslim neighbours .
অঞ্চল : যে অঞ্চলটিতে কালাম বাস করতেন সেটি ছিল মুসলিম অধ্যুষিত | তবে অনেক হিন্দু পরিবারও মুসলিম প্রতিবেশীদের সঙ্গে বন্ধুত্বপূর্ণভাবে বাস করত ।

5. Temple and Mosque : Rameswaram is famous for the Shiva Temple . But in his locality there was a very old mosque  where Kalam would go with his father for evening prayers . Although he could not understand the meaning of the Arabic prayers , he thought that those prayers  would reach God .

মন্দির ও মসজিদ : রামেশ্বরম শিব মন্দিরের জন্য বিখ্যাত । তবে তাঁর এলাকাতে একটা পুরোনো মসজিদ ছিল যেখানে কালাম তাঁর বাবার সঙ্গে সান্ধ্য প্রার্থনায় যেতেন । নিজে আরবি ভাষায় উচ্চারিত প্রার্থনার অর্থ না বুঝলেও তিনি মনে করতেন ওই প্রার্থনা আল্লার কাছে পৌঁছোয় |

6. Popularity of Kalam's father : People of different religions ( রিলিজিয়নস্ ) had much faith in the spiritual ( স্পিরিচুয়াল ) power of Kalam's father . They would offer him bowls of water . His father would dip his finger tips and say a prayer . This water was considered ( কনসিডারড ) holy medicine for invalids ( ইনভ্যালিডস্ ) . After being cured  , people would visit their house to thank his father . But his father would ask them to thank Allah , the merciful ( মারসিফুল ) .

  কালামের বাবার জনপ্রিয়তা : কালামের বাবার ঐশ্বরিক ক্ষমতার প্রতি বিভিন্ন ধর্মের মানুষের অগাধ বিশ্বাস ছিল | তারা তাঁকে জলের বাটি দিতেন । তিনি আঙুলের ডগা ডুবিয়ে , প্রার্থনা করে ওই জলকে পবিত্র জলে পরিণত করতেন । এই জলকে অক্ষমদের জন্য পবিত্র ওষুধ হিসেবে গণ্য করা হত । সেরে উঠে লোকজন তাঁদের বাড়িতে আসত তাঁর বাবাকে ধন্যবাদ জানানোর জন্য । কিন্তু তাঁর বাবা তাদেরকে বলতেন দয়ালু আল্লাকে ধন্যবাদ জ্ঞাপন করতে ।

7. Intimacy between Kalam's father and the high priest of Rameswaram temple : Pakshi Lakshmana Sastry , the high priest ( P ) of Rameswaram temple , was a close friend of Kalam's father . Kalam recollects one occasion when they were discussing ( ডিসকাসিং ) spiritual matters . It gives the message of tolerance ( টলারেন্স ) and harmony ( হারমনি ) .

8. Relevance of Prayer : Kalam once asked his father about the relevance ( fe ) of prayer . His father answered that prayer is nothing mysterious ( মিস্টিরিয়াস ) . Rather it is a means of communion ( কমিউনিয়ন ) of spirits between people . Through prayer an individual rises above his bodily ( a ) existence and becomes a part of the cosmos  which knows no narrowness ( ন্যারোনেস ) .

প্রার্থনার উপযোগিতা : একবার কালাম তাঁর বাবার কাছে প্রার্থনার উপযোগিতা সম্পর্কে জানতে চান । তাঁর বাবা উত্তরে বলেন যে প্রার্থনা রহস্যময় কিছু নয় । এটি বরং মানুষের সঙ্গে মানুষের অন্তরাত্মার মিলনের উপায় | প্রার্থনার মাধ্যমে একজন তার দৈহিক অস্তিত্বের সীমা অতিক্রম করে মহাজগতের অংশ হয়ে ওঠে , যে মহাজগতে কোনো সংকীর্ণতা নেই ।

9. Father's ability to communicate complex ideas in simple language : Kalam admiringly ( R ) recollects his father's ability to communicate ( কমিউনিকেট ) complex spiritual ideas in simple Tamil . Once his father explained ( a ) that human being is a part of the Divine Being . So we should not be afraid ( অ্যাফ্রেড ) of difficulties , sufferings ( সাফারিংজ্ ) and problems . We should try to understand the relevance of our suffering since difficulties always presents opportunities for deep thought about oneself .

  কালামের বাবার জটিল বিষয়কে সহজসরল ভাষায় প্রকাশ করার দক্ষতা : কালাম শ্রদ্ধার সঙ্গে তাঁর বাবার জটিল আধ্যাত্মিক বিষয়কে সহজ কথ্য তামিল ভাষায় প্রকাশের দক্ষতাকে স্মরণ করেছেন । একবার তাঁর বাবা ব্যাখ্যা করে বোঝান যে মানুষ হচ্ছে ঐশ্বরিক সত্তার অংশ । তাই জটিল পরিস্থিতি , যন্ত্রণা এবং সমস্যায় আমাদের ভয় পাওয়া উচিত নয় | আমাদের উচিত যন্ত্রণার প্রাসঙ্গিকতা বোঝার চেষ্টা করা কারণ দুঃসময় সর্বদা আমাদেরকে নিজেকে নিয়ে গভীর চিন্তাভাবনার সুযোগ করে দেয় ।

10. Kalam's father to the people in distress : Once Kalam asked his father why he would not communicate his spiritual concept to those who sought ( ) his help and advice . Kalam's father explained that every specific problem demands a special helper . Whenever human beings face great difficulties , they look for someone to show them the way out . For the people in distress ( f ) Kalam's father was only a medium . He would help in their effort to appease ( অ্যাপৗঁজ ) demonic ( ডেমনিক ) forces with prayers and offerings ( I ) . However , his father himself did not approve of this approach ( অ্যাপ্রোচ ) .

দুর্দশাগ্রস্ত মানুষের কাছে কালামের বাবা : কালাম একবার বাবার কাছে জানতে চান কেন তিনি তাঁর কাছে সাহায্য ও পরামর্শের জন্য আসা লোকজনকে তার আধ্যাত্মিক ধারণার কথা জানান না । কালামের বাবা ব্যাখ্যা করে বলেন প্রতিটি বিশেষ সমস্যার জন্য দরকার বিশেষ সাহায্যকারীর । যখনই মানুষ প্রচণ্ড সমস্যায় পড়ে তখনই তারা এমন একজনের সন্ধান করে যে তাদের সমাধানের পথ দেখাবে । দুর্দশাগ্রস্ত মানুষের কাছে কালামের বাবা ছিলেন শুধুমাত্র একজন মাধ্যম । প্রার্থনা ও অর্ঘ্য দিয়ে অশুভ শক্তিকে তুষ্ট করার প্রচেষ্টায় তিনি সাহায্য করেন । কিন্তু তাঁর বাবা নিজে এই পন্থা গ্রহণযোগ্য বলে মনে করতেন না ।

11. Father's views of destiny : According to Kalam's father there are two distinctly ( ff ) different views of destiny ( ) . One view of destiny is created out of fear . He calls this view , ' fear - ridden vision of destiny ' . Another vision of destiny is that there is ' enemy of fulfilment ( ) within ourselves ' . We should find out that enemy . Kalam's father advises us to understand the difference between these two visions of destiny . The two ideas of destiny are- ( i ) Destiny is a power that is above and beyond us . It is powerful and rules human life . ( ii ) Destiny is something that is within us . We have the power to control it .

বাবার অদৃষ্ট সম্পর্কে ধারণা : কালামের বাবার মতে অদৃষ্ট সম্বন্ধে সুস্পষ্টভাবে দুধরনের মত রয়েছে । একটি ধারণায় অদৃষ্টের উৎপত্তি ভয় থেকে । তিনি এটিকে ‘ ভয়ের কারণে সৃষ্ট অদৃষ্ট ’ বলেছেন | অদৃষ্টের আর - একটি ধারণা হল এই যে , ‘ আমাদের ভিতরেই আকাঙ্ক্ষা চরিতার্থ করার পথে বাধাসৃষ্টিকারী শত্রু বিদ্যমান ’ | আমাদের কাজ সেই শত্রুকে খুঁজে বের করা । কালামের বাবা এই দুই ধরনের অদৃষ্টবাদের পার্থক্য বুঝতে আমাদের পরামর্শ দেন । অদৃষ্ট সম্পর্কে ধারণা দুটি হল— ( i ) অদৃষ্ট এমন একটি শক্তি যা আমাদের ওপরে অবস্থান করে এবং আমাদের নাগালের বাইরে থাকে । এটি শক্তিধর এবং মানুষের জীবন নিয়ন্ত্রণ করে । ( ii ) অদৃষ্ট আমাদের মধ্যেই থাকে । একে নিয়ন্ত্রণ করার শক্তি আমাদের রয়েছে |

12. Father's routine - bound life : Kalam recounts his father's routine - bound life . His father would start his day at 4 a.m. by reading namaz . Then he would go to their coconut grove and return with about a dozen coconuts tied together . After that he would have his breakfast . He maintained this routine  even in his late sixties .
বাবার নিয়মে বাঁধা প্রাত্যহিক জীবন : কালাম স্মরণ করেছেন তাঁর বাবার নিয়মে বাঁধা জীবনের কথা | ভোর চারটেতে নামাজ পড়ে তাঁর বাবা দিন শুরু করতেন । তারপর তিনি তাঁদের নারকেল বাগানে যেতেন এবং ফিরতেন ডজনখানেক নারকেল বেঁধে নিয়ে । তারপর তিনি জলখাবার খেতেন । যখন তার বয়স ষাটের কোঠার শেষের দিকে তখনও তিনি এই প্রাত্যহিক নিয়ম মেনে চলতেন ।

13. Influence of his father : In his career as a scientist , Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam had tried to emulate  his father . His father revealed  to him the fundamental  truths that he had tried to understand . He believed in the existence of a divine power tha controls our life . He believed that this divine power can lift us up from confusion , misery , sadness and failure . This power guides us to our rightful position .

[ এপিজে আব্দুল কালাম তার আত্মজীবনীমূলক রচনা ' Strong Roots'- এ তার শৈশবে রামেশ্বরমে বিরাজমান সাম্প্রদায়িক সম্প্রীতির এক অসাধারণ চিত্র উপস্থাপন করেছেন । যদিও রামেশ্বরম শিবমন্দিরের জন্য প্রসিদ্ধ ছিল , সেখানে মসজিদও ছিল । যে জায়গায় কালাম বাস করতেন সেটি মুসলিম অধ্যুষিত ছিল । কিন্তু সেখানে অনেক হিন্দু পরিবার তাদের মুসলিম প্রতিবেশীদের সঙ্গে বন্ধুত্বপূর্ণ পরিবেশে বাস করতেন । কালাম তার ছোটোবেলাকার একটি স্মৃতি বর্ণনা করেছেন | রামেশ্বরম মন্দিরের প্রধান পুরোহিত পক্ষী লক্ষণ শাস্ত্রী ছিলেন তার বাবার ঘনিষ্ঠ বন্ধু । দুজনে দুই ভিন্ন ধর্মীয় সম্প্রদায়ের হওয়া সত্ত্বেও তারা আধ্যাত্মিক বিষয়ে বন্ধুত্বপূর্ণ আলোচনা করতেন । তাদের মধ্যে কোনো শত্রুতা বা দ্বন্দ্ব ছিল না ।

Ans . When Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam attained the age to ask questions , he asked his father about the relevance of prayer . His father told Kalam that there was nothing mysterious about prayer . He regarded prayer as a means of communion of the spirit between people . Through prayer , a man can go beyond his bodily existence and become a part of the cosmos . The cosmos knows no division of wealth , age , caste or creed , Thus Kalam's father justified the relevance of prayer . [ কালাম যখন প্রশ্ন জিজ্ঞেস করার মতো বয়সে পৌঁছোন , তিনি বাবার কাছে প্রার্থনার উপযোগিতা সম্পর্কে জানতে চান । তার বাবা কালামকে বলেন যে প্রার্থনায় কোনো রহস্যময়তা নেই । তিনি প্রার্থনাকে মানুষের সঙ্গে মানুষের আত্মিক মিলনের উপায় হিসেবে গণ্য করেন । প্রার্থনার মাধ্যমে ব্যক্তিমানুষ তার শারীরিক অস্তিত্বের সীমাকে অতিক্রম করে মহাজগতের অংশ হয়ে ওঠে । এই মহাজগতে ধনসম্পত্তি , বয়স , জাতি বা ধর্মের কোনো বিভেদ নেই | এইভাবে কালামের বাবা প্রার্থনার উপযোগিতাকে সমর্থন করেছেন । ]

Ans . Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam's father , Jainulabdeen , said this to his son . . This memorable  statement is an important part of Jainulabdeen's teachings . In his opinion , an individual is a specific element within the whole of the manifest Being . So he / she should not be afraid of difficulties , sufferings and problems . Rather we should try to understand the relevance of our suffering as it is part of the great design of the divine being . Even suffering has its own usefulness . A difficult or unpleasant ( আনপ্লেজেন্ট ) situation puts us to a test of endurance and makes us fit for all occasions . It compels us to examine our own thoughts , feelings , and reasons . In this sense , adversity widens  the range of introspection . This positive attitude impressed the young Kalam and he tried to follow his father's directions throughout his life .
